First assignment - Natan, Christian

First assignment.

The purpose of this assignment is to see which of three methods is the best to measure a tree.

Method 1: Method one is about to see if u can measure a tree, with staking a person with help of the eye of sight.
Calculations: The person is 1,7 meters, and we stacked him four times and that is about 6,8 meters (4*1,7=6,8 meters)

Method 2: In method two, we took a stick and measured the length of the stick holders arm and then he took some steps away from the tree until the stick covered the tree form our line of sight. Then we measured the distance form the tree to the stick holder.
Calculations: Arm length is 60 cm. and the distance form the tree to the stick holder is 840 cm. (60*840/60=8,4 meters)

Method 3: In method three we measured the shadow of the tree and divide it with 2,5(Because the shadow is bigger than the tree)  to see how big the trees height.
Calculations: The length of the shadow is 15 cm. (15:2,5=6 meters)

Logbook:
October 28th we started on method one, we had no problems with method one because the weather was nice, and it did not take long before we found a tree.

October 31th we started on method two and three. we choose to begin with method 3 because  the sun was shining bright so it was easy to see the shadows. And method two was easy because we used a big 1 meter ruler as a stick, that made it easy for us to measure the length.

Assignment 1

Method 1 – Stacking friends

The three is, 8 x 1,66m that’s 13,28

Method 2 – stick in hand
Our calculation is 13 steps and that is about 13 meters.

Method 3 – the sun
We couldn't make the third assignment because the sun wasn't shining.

We think method 3 was a bit tricky, but if the sun where shining it have bin the most precise assignment of them all.

Log

The 3th of October we started with the first assignment, and it worked pretty well. Mathias was standing in front of the tree, and then we took a photo so we could put it into the computer and calculate it all there.

The 28th of October we worked on method one and two and we were almost done.

The 31th of October we started making a blog post and put the photos that we took into the computer.

The 16th of December we continued with the blog post, and corrected spelling mistake, fonts and so on.
we uploaded the assignments to the blog later that day, and we send a facebook message to Diana and Gabrielius and said what we had done and that they could do the same.

Method 1

150,5*7= 1116,5

This method is very imprecise.

Method 2

A1B1      =    B1C1
AB          =    BC

1000       =    X
70           =    70

1000/70  =   X/70
70           =    70

1000       = X

This method is more difficult but more precise.

Method 3

We havent made this because its not sunny anymore in Denmark...
This method is not easy to make because there is not any sun. but it is the most precise.

The high of the tree is ca. 1000 cm tall.
We think that the best method is number 2 because you can always make it and it is almost precise.

Method 1

1,66*6 = 9,96 metre
We took a picture of the tree  where a person  was standing next to it and sent it to the computer, then we found out how many times the person could be put on top of himself to reach the top of the tree. We used paint to draw the lines.

Method 2
9,30 metre
We found a stick that was the length of the persons arm. Then we held the stick in stretched arm. We walked backwards until the tree is covered by the stick in the height. The distance from the tree and where the person was standing is the same height as the tree.

Method 3
We can’t make method 3 right now because the sun doesn’t shine.

Which problems is there whit the methods?
The advantages whit the methods are that, it’s easy and quick to find the result, but the drawback whit the methods is that they don’t give the exact result.

Which method is the right?

We think that it is method 3 there is the right, but we don’t, now because we didn’t make it. Between method 1 and 2, we think that method 2 gives the most correct answer, if we do it exact. But it is difficult to do it precise. So it is easy to make method 1 by rule of thumb.

Logbook

The 24th of September: We took pictures of Sara beside the tree for method 1.

The 28th of October: We took pictures of us making method 2. We had a problem by moving the picture from Word to Paint and back. We also forgot that the stick should be as long as the arm.

The 31th of October: We found out the formula for method 2 by the help of our teacher and drew the height on the picture.

The 16th of December: We uploaded the assignments on the blog and then we contacted Erikas and Dominykas and said what we had done and that they could do the same.

sarah: 1.58
1.58*8=12.64 meter

-We had trouble by drawing the lines on the picture.
The weather was rainy so it was hard to do.
Method 2
930/60=x/60
x=9.30 meter

We think the first Method was the best
