Migle and Lukas:

7th January 2014: We were briefed on our new assignment. Up to 14th January we thought about the game we could create.

14th January 2014: We had another meetup, where we discussed our prototypes of the game. We were also informed that we'll have a Skype call with the Danish students.

17th January 2014: We talked about the games we've thought of and made a decision which game we'll make.

From 17th January we started to make the game and we've filmed it on the 26th January.

Video:

There is some photos of our game:

^ We and Danish group made a calculations, and we get the same answer.

Julie and Miklas:

Friday 17/01
We talked on skype with Migle and Lukas, we told our idea to them and they told us their idea. We decided that Migle and Lukas’ idea was the best idea. We talked about something else.

Monday 20/01
We waited on Migle and Lukas to answer us about the game, and while we waited we helped the other groups.

Thursday 23/01
We wrote with Migle and we started making the game, and began to write this logbook.

Triangles game Linas and Evelina

Our game is very easy. There are two different puzzles with different pictures on it. Pieces of puzzles are mixed, so kids would separate them by different colour. After placing the puzzles, they have to get triangle from pictures. It's very easy and interesting game for the 5th grade.

mandag den 27. januar 2014

Information about game:
On the ground there are triangles of all kinds : obtuse , angled and tapered triangles. When the game manager sings “ dance dance “ children has to dance, jump or just move , but when the manager says the triangle’s name like “obtuse, angled or tapered triangle” the children has to jump on that triangle , that is mentioned . The children , who coulnd’nt fit on the triangles are of the game . as far as game goes the manger takes triangles away until there is one winer.

Today we were playing this game with our classmates, to check or is good for 5th grade students..
So let's watch:

logbook Diana and Gabrielius

Logbook
On January 7th all the lithuanian students , that are in this project, met and analised a letter ,that sent Danish teacher. Me and Gabrielius after that started thinking what game could we make.

On January 14th all the Lithuanian students met again and talked how we should present our game to the Danish students.
On January 15th ,  we figured the game and wrote a disripction so we could present it easier to the Danish students.
On January 17th we had a skype conversation with the Danish students. We talked about the games. The Danish students idea , was like memory game and our’s more like moving, running, jumping game, so the Danish students said that our game would be more interesting for 5th grade students and picked our game.
On January 23rd me and Gabrielius made everything we needed for the game.

On January 27th  we filmed the video of our classmates playing our game .

Rules of our memory game

Put the cards on the table so they lay upside down

The youngest person starts by picking two cards and if it’s a congruent or a similar triangle. Then you have a pair

Then the person next to the youngest. Pick two cards as well.

The one who has most pairs. Is the winner!!!!!

20th December 2013
LT: Our winter holidays started.

7th January 2014
LT: Had the first meeting with Lithuanians after holidays to talk about the project, and then we got a new assignment.

13th January 2014
DK: We started to talk about the game in the class, and find idea about how to make the game about congruent and similar. And then we talked about what we have to learn then we make this game. We also talked about that it could be a good idea to make a memory game.

14th January 2014
LT: Had the second meeting to talk about how project and idea a little bit, because all the groups had to keep it secret.

17th January 2014

Us all: We talked on Skype. Mantas and Edvinas had an idea about, we could talk a little bit about them so the 5th grades know who they are. And they also had an idea about we could make an introduction about similar and congruent, so the 5th grades know something about it. Then Sara, Julie and Winnie had idea about how to make the game. That was a kind of a memory game. So we decided to do thatJ It was fun to talk together, and we think we need more Skype conferences to realize idea to the game.

20th January 2014
DK: We made a demo version of the memory game, and some other students tried it, and say that it was a good game. We talked with the shop class teacher if he could made the  memory game bricks in wood, and he will do that
J

21th January 2014
DK: The shop class teacher had made the memory game bricks in wood, and we got them.

23th January 2014
DK: We started to make the memory game. Because we think it’s a good idea that us from Denmark make the game, so we have it over here in Denmark.
Nicole and Kirsten
Our game: there is a bunch of card, and three piles. On the cards there are differnt figures, if the figures are similar you place them in one pile: Similar. If they are congruent you place them in another pile: Congruent, if the triangles aren’t similar or congruent you place them in the pile: Different.

1. If you get a similar or a congruent you’ll have to guess if it’s a similar or a congruent. And if you guess wrong you’ll have to put both cards back in the stack again and shuffle the whole stack together!

2. If you guess right you’ll get a point and keep the two cards.

Dices and triangles

The way our game work is that the squares with triangles are mixed on the table.
Then you roll a dice, and if it lands between 1-3 you have to find a square with a similar triangle on.
And if it lands between 4-6 you have to pick up a card with a congruent triangle.
It took allot of time to draw the triangles.

Logbook:
20/01 We was told that we had to make a game about similar, and congruent triangles.
We was separated in groups, where we came with ideas. We came up with some ideas but we had some trouble with constructing the ideas to a physical game.

23/01 In our first English lesson, we skyped with our group in Lithuania, and we talked about theres and ours ideas for a game about similar and  congruent triangles.
Next lesson we started with the construction of the game and finished it soon after.

our game

- Make to teams.
- Hang the papir with the triangles on the wall.
- Find a referee, the referee have to say what triangles the teams should hit.
- If the referee says similar triangle, the first person from the team should run over and hit the similar triangle.
- The team who hit the right triangle first and most times win.

Friday 17/01.
We used Skype to talk with our group from Lithuanian, they couldn’t hear us so instead of talking to them we wrote with them. We explained our idea to them, and they explained their idea to us. We chose our idea and we still don’t know what idea they picked. Our considerations today were what game we would make, and the only problems we had was that the Lithuanians couldn’t hear us.

Monday 20/01.
We made our game. We drew some similar and congruent triangles. When we were finished with the game, a group played it. We wrote the rules for our game down. The game worked great. We didn’t have any problems or considerations today.

Game project

Make a game together with your group that will teach 5th grade students about similar and congruent triangles. Remember the players are in 5th grade, so don't make it too difficult.

The finished game is to be played when you come to Denmark.

2. Is there something you need to learn in order for you to make the game?
3. Talk about different types of games you can play - via skype?
4. Decide on the kinde of game you want to make
5. Let another group play your game
6. Finish the game - make a blogpost about your game.
7. Remember to keep a log book on the process - the log book is to be put on the blog

Week 1 : we are still on holiday
Week 2 : number 1+2
Week 3 : number 3+4 (should we arrange a skype session)
Week 4 : number 5+6
Week 5 : Loose ends are to be finished.

First assignment - Monika and Kostas

Method 1

Kostas, Lukas and l measured my height which was 1.60m. Then we counted how many times I would fit into the trees height. The answer was 6 times 1.60m is equal to 9,6m

Method 2.

First, Kostas found a stick whose length was equal to his fully extended arm, which was 71cm. He held it vertically and walked backwards until the stick was as high as the tree the distance from Kostas to the tree was 9,20m. Then I did the proportion: a=b=71cm as A=B=9.20m

Method 3.

We didn't do it because of the sun

Log book (Emilija and Aistė)

6th of January we had meeting, teachers introduced us with our task. They said that we have to devise game about similar and congruent triangles.

14th of January we had meeting again. We discussed about games, we all introduced our ideas to teachers.

17th of January we had skype lesson. We talked with our members of the group ( Maria and Michelle). Me and Emilija had introduced our game, it was a little bit difficult, but in the end everything was fine.
Maria and Michelle introduced their game too. Its a kind of memory game, when you have to find two congruent cards.

We decided that Maria's and Michelle's game is better than our. Because our game was a little bit difficult to 5th grade.

First assignment - Erikas, Dominykas

Method 1

Erikas walked 30 meters away from the tree

Dominykas stood up next to the tree

Erikas started measuring how many times the tree was bigger than Dominykas

Dominykas height was 1,74 cm and the tree was 5.5 times bigger

So we multiplied - 1,74*5.5= 9.57

The height of the tree was 9.57

Method 2

Our maths teather gave us a big ruler
Erikas had to hold it verticaly and walk backwards until the tree was completely covered by the
ruler, it shouldn't be longer than the tree.
We measured distance between Erikas and the tree
ant it was 9.4 meters
So based on triangle similarity feature we measured tree height -  9.4 meters

First assignment - Brigita and Jurgita

Method 1

*Jurgita's height - 1,73  m
 * Jurgita stood up to the tree, and then Brgita stood next to a tree. Brigita tried to see, how many times, the tree was bigger. Tree  was bigger 4.5 times.
* 1,73*4.5=7,9 m
* This task was easy to perform. It took not much time.

Method 2

The teacher gave us a great ruler, which measured a Brigita's hand. It was 60cm.Brigita's stood next to the tree, and then started walking backwards until the stick was the same size as a tree. She stopped then when the ruler was as tall as tree was.The distance between Brigita's feet and the tree was 8.1m.
In the end we used the similar triangles' properties to calculate the tree's height. The answer was 8.1 m.
The task was not easy to make, but we did it!

Method 3

We weren't able to do it because the weather was very grainy.

Speaking About Maths – Figure it out

The first assignment

In the first assignment, we have taken a photo of Louise in front of a tree. Louise is 1, 64 meter and she can be there 6 and ¾ times so calculation is 1, 64 * 6, 66 = 10, 92 meter. This photo is taken 3rd of October. The last many times Louise has been ill so Julie have make’s the assignment.

(Louise is moved to another school, so Miklas is in the group now instead of Louise)

The second assignment
In the second assignment, we have taken a photo of Julie holding a broom with the size of Julie’s arm. She is holding it 11 meters away from the tree. The distance between Julie and the tree is the same as the tree’s height. We took the photo 1st of November.

The third assignment
We weren't able to do it because there isn’t any sun.
